Die Geschichte hinter GlowSense

Hallo, ich bin Jessica – Gründerin und Entwicklerin von GlowSense.

Mit 32 Jahren erhielt ich die Diagnose Typ-1-Diabetes. Von einem Tag auf den anderen musste ich lernen, mit Glukosesensoren, Insulin und einer völlig neuen Realität zu leben.

Ich ertappte mich dabei, ständig zum Smartphone zu greifen. Immer nur ein kurzer Blick – aber diese vielen kleinen Momente summierten sich. Meine Bildschirmzeit stieg. Diabetes nahm immer mehr Raum ein. Beim Essen. Im Auto. Beim Sport. Im Alltag.

Irgendwann stellte ich mir eine einfache Frage:

Warum muss ich zu meinem Glukosewert gehen – kann er nicht einfach zu mir kommen?

Aus dieser Frage entstand GlowSense.

Keine weitere App, die du ständig öffnen musst. Sondern eine Plattform, die Glukoseinformationen dorthin bringt, wo sie dir wirklich helfen – als Widget, auf der Apple Watch, über Sprachansagen, im Auto oder als dezentes Licht im Raum.

I was diagnosed at 32. From one day to the next, I had to deal with glucose sensors, insulin and a completely new world. Like many others, I wanted to keep track of my glucose value as easily as possible – without constantly unlocking my smartphone.

Whether as a widget on the Lock Screen, on the Apple Watch, via voice announcements, in the car or as coloured light in the room – everyone lives their daily life differently. That's why everyone should be able to decide for themselves how they perceive their glucose information.

GlowSense doesn't replace a diabetes app and is not a medical device. The app complements existing CGM systems with additional ways to display glucose information discreetly and intuitively in everyday life.

GlowSense is an independent project that I develop alongside my job. Every feature comes from personal experience, conversations with other people with diabetes and the desire to make everyday life a little bit easier.

Since I haven't been living with Type 1 Diabetes for long myself, I still remember well how overwhelming the first period can be. Perhaps that's exactly a strength of GlowSense: I'm not building the app with the most features, but the app I would have wished for right after my diagnosis.

I welcome every piece of feedback and every idea from the community. Because GlowSense should not only be developed for people with diabetes, but together with them.
